The starter rod is a short flexible connector made of alloy steel, placed between the drill string and the sonde housing or reamer. It carries a range of stresses thatarise during drilling operations. A hexagonal or octagonal protective sleeve secures the connection between the sonde housing or reamer and the drill string.
