MODITHERM HDD

MODITHERM HDD

Bentonite-mineral compound for filling protective duct systems in cable lines

Product Description

MODITHERM HDD is a specialised bentonite-mineral compound designed to fill the annular space between power cables and the wall of protective ducts/conduits. The product is used primarily in the construction and upgrading of medium- and high-voltage cable lines, including 15-20 kV, 110 kV and 220 kV lines.
MODITHERM HDD improves the thermal operating conditions of cables installed in protective ducts/conduits by reducing air voids, stabilising cable position and enabling more effective heat dissipation to the surrounding ground.

Applications

  • filling protective duct systems containing power cables,
  • improving heat transfer within the cable-protective duct-ground system,
  • stabilising the position of cables inside the ducts/conduits,
  • reducing air voids around the cable,
  • construction and upgrading of medium- and high-voltage cable lines,
  • use under various ground, environmental and climatic conditions.

Benefits of Using MODITHERM HDD

  • improves heat dissipation from power cables installed in protective ducts/conduits,
  • helps increase the current-carrying capacity of cables,
  • fills free annular space between the cable and the duct/conduit,
  • keeps cables in a stable position along the duct/conduit length,
  • reduces the risk of mechanical damage to the cable installation,
  • is easy to prepare and apply,
  • can be flushed out of the protective duct if cable replacement is required,
  • maintains stable performance parameters during service.

Slurry Preparation

The recommended W/S ratio is 0.65. This means that to prepare approximately 1 m3 of finished slurry, the following quantities should be used:

ComponentQuantity per 1 m3 of slurry
MODITHERM HDDapprox. 930 kg
Waterapprox. 620 L

The density of a properly prepared slurry should be approximately 1.6-1.7 g/cm3. To ensure uniform and proper filling of the protective ducts/conduits, ongoing monitoring of slurry density is recommended during preparation and application.

Directions for Use

  • Introduce the measured quantity of water into the mixing unit.
  • Gradually add MODITHERM HDD while maintaining continuous mixing.
  • Mix until a homogeneous, lump-free slurry is obtained.
  • Check the density of the finished mixture.
  • Pump the slurry into the annular space between the cable and the protective duct  using suitable pumping equipment.
  • Verify proper and complete filling of the duct/conduit along the entire section length.

Packaging

  • 25 kg paper bags,
  • 1,000 kg pallets: 40 bags of 25 kg each,
  • 1,000 kg big bags.

Storage

The product should be stored in its original, sealed packaging in a dry, covered area. Protect from moisture and direct contact with water prior to use.

Technical Notes

The parameters stated in this technical data sheet are typical values and may vary slightly depending on slurry preparation conditions, the quality of the water used, mixing intensity and jobsite application conditions. Before using the product on a specific project, it is recommended to perform a field trial and confirm the required parameters in accordance with the project documentation.
